My Sisters’ Place’s unique volunteer programs offer individuals, community groups and corporations an opportunity to make a difference. Whether working directly with survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking, translating, or helping to organize our in-kind donation rooms, each volunteer has a special impact.

Given the trauma facing our clients, and the rigorous confidentiality needed to ensure their safety, every volunteer must participate in an on-site training to learn MSP’s protocol safeguards and the complexities of domestic violence and human trafficking. Except for remote language translations and interpretations, volunteer hours and training are Monday through Friday during business hours.

Contact volunteer@mspny.org for more information and to discuss our volunteer initiatives.

Volunteer Partners:

Volunteers work with us on an as-needed basis to support the core work of our staff on-site in our White Plains and Yonkers administrative offices.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, organizing our in-kind donation rooms, assembling mailings, and assisting with administrative tasks in advance of our fundraising events.

While this program doesn’t have direct client contact, it requires a personal interview and four-hour training session.

Internships:

My Sisters' Place offers a limited number of internships each year to high school seniors who participate in Westchester’s “Senior Options” program as well as to college students during the summer.

Internship projects may include conducting research, helping to organize our in-kind donations, supporting our education and prevention team, and assisting with corporate and community volunteer events.

Corporate, Community Groups, Faith-Based Groups, Scouting and School Projects

Our strong partnerships with corporate and community groups support both MSP clients and team building efforts. Whether it is a donation drive or a packing event, there is an array of ways we collaborate with groups that want to make a difference. We are happy to work with each group to tailor the event to suit our mutual needs! Volunteer service days can be held at your location or at the MSP offices.

There is no volunteer training required for corporate or community events. An MSP staff person will be present to share information about our work and answer participants’ questions.

Bilingual Volunteers

Our bilingual translation and interpreter volunteers help us reach more people with education and prevention information. By translating our brochures, facts sheets, web copy, and more into different languages, we can have a greater impact.

Some bilingual volunteers work under the direct supervision of MSP attorneys and counselors as interpreters for clients. Written translations can be done remotely. Interpreting work is conducted in-person.

Translation and interpreter volunteers will participate in a four-hour training.
