Sisters In Law (SIL) Program

“Court hearings are very nerve-wrecking which is why I appreciate the Sister-In-Law advocates so much. They provide me with moral support, they remind me every time that it will be okay and that I am not alone. We breathe together. We stay calm together. They are the sisters I never had.”

- MSP Client

Sisters-In-Law are highly-trained, trauma-informed volunteers who provide direct support to our clients by accompanying them to court hearings as well as medical and social service appointments. SILs participate in monthly meetings for peer-to-peer support and ongoing continuing education, in addition to providing post-client accompaniment feedback. Bilingual SILs also provide in-person and virtual interpretation and document translation services during client interaction.

Participation in our Sister-in-Law program requires a personal interview and a 32-hour training series, which is generally spread out over two weeks in-person or 11 weeks virtually, via ZOOM.  We are hoping to start a hybrid model this FALL. Volunteers work on an as-needed basis during business hours.
